Our own medium-sized yellow star was far from alone when it was formed, with hundreds of fellow solar bodies and a supernova to keep it company. From the article: "The evidence for the solar sisters was found in daughters--such as decayed particles from radioactive isotopes of iron--trapped in meteorites, which can be studied as fossil remnants of the early solar system. These daughter species allowed Looney and his colleagues to discern that a supernova with the mass of about 20 suns exploded relatively near the early Sun when it formed 4.6 billion years ago; and where there are supernovas or any massive star, you also see hundreds to thousands of sun-like stars, he said. The cluster of thousands of stars dispersed billions of years ago due to a lack of gravitational pull, Looney said, leaving the sisters 'lost in space' and our Sun looking like an only child ever since, he said."

What you say? What is so special about artificial light? This is. Olle Essvik has developed the Sunclock. Basically it is a lamp that emulates the sun—at sunrise the light will illuminate lightly and gets more intense as the day goes on the then as the sun sets it will fade away.
What's even worse is that Essvik developed a mobile version. Instead of lighting up it just shows a yellow block that moves reflecting the sun's movement and position in the sky (jump to see the picture). Seriously, just look up or go outside.

It looks like the power of the sun gives life to the fan, which blows directly into your eyes, trading one type of eye discomfort for another. Het britse roddelblad The Sun heeft onlangs een foto van Prins Harry geplaatst waarbij hij de borst van Natalie Pinkham vastgrijpt in een nachtclub. Deze foto is echter in 2003 genomen en niet van de hedendaagse tijd.
The Sun veronschuldigt zich voor het plaatsen van de foto's zonder de toestemming van de Prinsen en de ophef dat daaruit van is gekomen in het openbaar. 'We zullen een donatie schenken aan een goed doel dat door Ms. Natalie Pinkham gekozen.' schrijft het blad The Sun.

An anonymous reader writes "Yesterday, Voyager 1 passed 100 astronomical units from the sun as it continues operating after nearly 30 years in space. That is about 15 billion kilometers or 9.3 billion miles as it travels about 1 million miles per day. Scientists still hope it will find the edge of the solar system and get into interstellar space."

Eerste seizoen van de Amerikaanse sitcom met buitenaardse wezens die er gewoon uitzien als mensen.
Het beste aan 3rd Rock from the Sun is de manier waarop de aardling op de korrel wordt genomen. Een viertal aliens strijkt neer op aarde om ons te bestuderen, en doen zich voor als mens tussen de mensen. Na een dag vol idioterie zitten ze gezamenlijk op het dak naar de sterren te kijken, en bespreken hun inzichten over het aardse ras. En die zijn onveranderd melig.
Lange lijs
Verwacht geen diepgravende filosofieën aangaande de mensheid, want 3rd Rock gaat voor de makkelijke grap. De personages zijn dan ook niet bepaald subtiel uitgewerkt, maar karikaturaal.
John Lithgow is beslist enig als de lange lijs annex ijdeltuit die professor wordt aan de universiteit en thuis tracht de boel op orde te houden. Thuis zit een van hormonen stuiterende puberzoon, een wulpse blondine en een oen.
Verbazing
Het eerste, in 1996 opgenomen seizoen kan het vooral hebben van de allerkleinste grapjes, zoals hoe lekker niezen kan zijn en verbazing over zoiets als tranen ("Er lekt water uit mijn ogen - help!"). En uiteraard heel veel hihaho-grappen over de eerste seksuele contacten. Het is allemaal prijsschieten in deze aanloopperiode, al is het meestentijds erg vermakelijk.
