Alles over Microsoft May Be Inflating SharePoint Stats | rss feed | toevoegen | e-mail nieuwsalarm | Slashdot | 2009-10-20 01:48:17
ericatcw writes "Taking a page out of McDonalds 'billions and billions served,' Microsoft says it reaps $1.3 billion a year from more than 100 million users of its SharePoint collab app. But some suggest that the figures are consciously inflated by Microsoft sales tactics in order to boost the appearance of momentum for the platform, reports Computerworld. A recent survey suggests that less than a fourth of users licensed for SharePoint actually use it. SharePoint particularly lags as a platform for Web sites, according to the same survey, a situation Microsoft hopes to fix with the upcoming SharePoint 2010."Read more of this story at Slashdot.

Alles over First Look at Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 Beta | rss feed | toevoegen | e-mail nieuwsalarm | Slashdot | 2009-04-16 08:48:08
snydeq writes "InfoWorld's Martin Heller takes a first look at Microsoft's Exchange Server 2010 Beta, noting several usability, reliability, and compliance improvements over Exchange 2007. Top among Exchange 2010's new features are OWA support for Firefox 3 and Safari 3; improved storage reliability; conversation views; mail federation between trusted companies; and MailTips, a sort of Google Mail Goggles for the corporate environment. 'Database availability groups give you redundant mail stores with continuous replication; database-level failover gives you automatic recovery. I/O optimizations make Exchange less "bursty" and better suited to desktop-class SATA drives; JBOD support lets you concatenate disks rather than stripe them into a redundant array.' Exchange 2010 will, however, require shops to upgrade to Windows Server 2008, as support for Windows Server 2003 has been dropped. Microsoft will release technical previews of other products in the suite, including Office 2010, SharePoint Server 2010, Visio 2010, and Project 2010, in the third calendar quarter."Read more of this story at Slashdot.

Alles over Euro 5, Mitsubishi 2010: A Clean, New Diesel Coming Next Decade | rss feed | toevoegen | e-mail nieuwsalarm | Jalopnik | 2006-06-21 16:10:27
Yesterday, Mitsubishi Motors informed the press the company was indeed planning to be in business past next Tuesday. Mitsubishi Motors and its parent, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, announced they will collaborate on a small diesel engine that will meet the next level of Europe's gathering emissions standards, or Euro 5, that will go into effect in 2010. The engine's expected to be in the can by 2009, and will show up in small and midsize cars for the 2010 model year -- replacing diesels sourced by Volkswagen and DaimlerChrysler. According to the EU, Euro 5--compliant diesels will be required to emit exhaust that simulates the breath of puppies, scented with undertones of cotton candy and purple Jelly Belly candy.
