            <title>iPhone Users Angry Over AT&amp;amp;T Upgrade Policy</title>
            <link>http://www.jouwnieuws.nl/iPhone_Users_Angry_Over_AT%26amp%3BT_Upgrade_Policy.html</link>
<description>All is not sweetness and light in the wake of the Apple WWDC kickoff announcements, especially concerning the evolution of the iPhone. Reader Hugh Pickens writes: &quot;AT&amp;amp;T will offer the new iPhone 3G S when it debuts later this month at a cost of $199 and $299 for the 16GB and 32GB models, but only to new customers and those who qualify for the discounted price. AT&amp;amp;T subscribers with an iPhone 3G who are not eligible for an upgrade &amp;mdash; those not near the end of their two-year contracts &amp;mdash; will have to pay $200 more &amp;mdash; $399 for the 16GB model and $499 for the 32GB model. 'This is ridiculous and slap in the face to long-time loyal iPhone customers like me who switched from T-Mobile and the only reason was the iPhone,' writes one unhappy iPhone customer. 'We have to mount a vigorous campaign to change this policy. Call your local AT&amp;amp;T and ask for the manager and complain. Send e-mails and post in forums everywhere.' The issue is spurring heavy debate on support discussion forums, with some customers supporting AT&amp;amp;T. 'The option you have is to honor the contract you freely committed yourself to,' says one forum member. 'If you want to upgrade early then you will have to pay full price with no subsidy discount. You can't blame anyone but yourself for your predicament.'&quot;Read more of this story at Slashdot.

            <title>iPhone 3G Finally Available In US Contract-Free</title>
            <link>http://www.jouwnieuws.nl/iPhone_3G_Finally_Available_In_US_Contract-Free.html</link>
<description>Engadget is reporting that the iPhone 3G is finally available contract-free if you are willing to pay a much higher premium. Without a contract consumers are looking at $599 for an 8GB model and $699 for the 16GB. AT&amp;amp;T has the added restriction that you must be an existing AT&amp;amp;T customer, but Apple (retail stores only, sorry) will sell one to anyone willing to pay the premium. This change brings the model much closer to the prevailing European model where phones are sold as hardware and the plans are handled completely separately.Read more of this story at Slashdot.

<title>A Day in the Line: Queuing Up for the iPhone 3G Launch</title>

SAN FRANCISCO, California -- It's finally here. After months of waiting, salivating and prognosticating, the iPhone 3G finally became available worldwide today.

Lining up in front of the San Francisco Apple store during the wee hours on Friday morning, Wired.com correspondents talked to a litany of fascinating iPhone fans, geeky tech-heads and even some cynics. Here's a smattering of some interesting faces we encountered from that crowd, plus a few glimpses of other queues from around the world.
Left: The line outside the downtown San Francisco Apple store stretched around the block by 7 a.m. While Apple claimed its mandatory in-store activation would only take 15 minutes, technical problems caused the morning's early setups to drag on for 45 minutes or more.

Many patrons who got in line early for the iPhone 3G came prepared with hammocks, sleeping bags and tents. Here, an unidentified member of the queue grabs a few winks before the phone went on sale at 8 a.m.

JT, a web designer from San Francisco and his dog, Chaya, literally cheese for the camera, simultaneously showing off their love for Apple communication devices and partially hydrogenated cheddar-flavored products spewed from pressurized cans.

Lane, an Alameda, California, resident and iPhone line holder exercises some capitalist muscle, offering his spot near the front of the queue for $100. Lane had no takers at the time this photo was taken at 7:30 a.m.

In the space of an hour, the line outside the AT&amp;T Wireless store in downtown San Francisco nearly tripled before doors opened at 8 am.

Future iPhone owners wait in the line outside Japanese mobile carrier Softbank's flagship store in Tokyo's Omotesando shopping district late Thursday, July 10, 2008, before the first sales of Apple's iPhone in Japan Friday.

Customers queue inside the Apple retail store on Regent Street, London, for the phone's launch.

Angelique Guillermo, left, assistant manager of the downtown-S.F. AT&amp;T store, explains to Mark Hogenson, right, and Ellen Davis, center, that after a long morning of waiting in line, they may not get an iPhone due to dwindling supplies.  &quot;It's probably not looking too good,&quot; Davis commented on her chances of getting a new phone today. &quot;I really have to pee, so I'm debating what's more important at this point.&quot;

Models hold the new iPhones today in Hong Kong. Dealers and buyers said it's only a matter of time -- maybe as little as a few days -- before the popular device hits the region's thriving underground marketplace.

Dominic Sagolla, organizer of iPhoneDevCamp, literally takes a whiff of his new iPhone 3G. Sagolla was the first customer to emerge from the Apple store in San Francisco with the new device in hand.

<title>Apple: iPhone FAQs For Current AT&amp;T Customers: All Customers Eligible For iPhone</title>
            <link>http://www.jouwnieuws.nl/Apple%3A_iPhone_FAQs_For_Current_AT%26T_Customers%3A_All_Customers_Eligible_For_iPhone.html</link>
<description>There've been plenty of details on how you buy an iPhone and sign up for AT&amp;T service if you're not a current AT&amp;T customer, but until now current users have been jabbing in the dark about what they have to do. Well, AT&amp;T's finally put up a FAQ, and what a great FAQ it is. The most important detail is the fact that any AT&amp;T customer is eligible, even if you've just upgraded your phone recently. And there are no penalties either.

For people already on board the death sphere, you'll have to go to an AT&amp;T store and the retail employee will help you upgrade your phone. You'll be able to go upgrade through myWireless online later. You don't have to switch to a different plan&amp;mdash;you just have to add the iPhone Data plan starting at $20.

But if you decide to return your iPhone within 14 days, you'll have to pay a 10% open box restocking fee.
