For starters, the GZ-HD7 uses a clever pixel shifting technique to deliver the full HD raster, 1920 by 1080i—that's not 1080p, granted, but certainly an improvement over that garden-variety 1440x1080 HDV format favored by most consumer HD camcorders. Most importantly, its 60GB hard drive on board does away with that pesky videotape, a remnant of the dark ages that we won't miss one bit. It has a pretty good lens on it, too, f/1.8 - 1.9 Fujinon glass that JVC uses in its broadcast line of HD cameras. The CU500 has a swiveling 1.3 megapixel camera, music keys, microSD, stereo Bluetooth and weighs 105 grams. The phone has a pretty average talk time of 3.5 hours, but it's the first phone to use the new HSDPA network, so quit complaining. But, the HSDPA is only available in select markets for now, so check your area before plopping down for the LG. LG seems to think so, and is releasing the U400 slider phone with an off-center scroll-wheel. It's got 3G video calling, Bluetooth, stereo speakers, 2 megapixel camera and a microSD slot for added storage. The finish is the same as the LG Chocolate phone, but weighs a little bit more. Also, when you're playing MP3s you can use the scroll-wheel to make scratching noises. Adjusting the volume would have made more sense, but who are we to judge?
