            <description>A front page article in Sunday's edition of The New York Times examines how the Supreme Court &quot;moved right.&quot;

&quot;It was the Supreme Court that conservatives had long yearned for and that liberals feared,&quot; Linda Greenhouse writes for the paper. &quot;By the time the Roberts court ended its first full term on Thursday, the picture was clear. This was a more conservative court, sometimes muscularly so, sometimes more tentatively, its majority sometimes differing on methodology but agreeing on the...

            <description> Some product ideas are just plain genius. Case in point - the case-mate &amp;#8220;handle-it&amp;#8221; for the Apple MacBook, MacBook Pro, and PowerBook G4 notebooks. Handle-it is a premium leather and aluminum handle that&amp;#8217;s designed exclusively for those notebooks. Once attached, &amp;#8220;handle-it&amp;#8221; provides a convenient method of carrying your notebook around. The handle provides a conduit for heat by acting as a passive heat sink with fins - drawing heat away from the notebook during operation. Finally, when you&amp;#8217;re ready to place the MacBook Pro down, you simply fold the handle inward and it&amp;#8217;ll double as a notebook stand. Genius. &amp;#8220;handle-it&amp;#8221; is made out of 6061 aircraft aluminum and can be purchased for $49.00. Fans of Citroen's odd-duck people haulers, look over here. The new, 5-seat Citröen C4 Picasso MPV broke cover today, capping off months of spy shots, speculation and Nutella-and-banana crepes (for some of us). It's the more compact in the company's line of MPVs, with style cues that reflect the company's &quot;visiospace&quot; concept -- which emphasizes peripheral visibility and light -- such as as a wraparound windshield and a greenhouse that would shame Monsanto. But is it enough to compete with Renault's Scenic series? Hah. Just kidding. &amp;ndash; Mike Spinelli

            <title>Detroit Auto Show Preview: Nevermind The Embargo Or The Bollocks, It's The Jaguar C-XF Concept Car!</title>

            <description>

      Although it's got an embargo with more holes than that mesh front grille, the newly un-embargoed Jaguar C-XF concept car, according to Ian Callum, Jag's Director of Design, &quot;evokes instant desire.&quot; While we dunno yet if we agree, we do know it's definitely showing a look or two that scream &quot;classic classy&quot; Jag (like the 1950 Mark VII and 1959 Mark 2 saloons) a look or two screaming &quot;new hotness&quot; Jag (like the current XK) and a couple design elements that scream &quot;where the hell did you come from?&quot; (like the &quot;bold move&quot; that is that aggressive black-chromed grille). The concept's meant to signal the design cues we may see on the next-gen XK sports car series, and from the exterior appearance and big ol' circular Jaguar face on the fascia all the way through to the circular &quot;Judo Chop&quot; &quot;ShaguarDrive&quot; &quot;JaguarDrive&quot; Selector on the interior, there's certainly some unifying themes. Let's see whether it becomes a design concept or if it'll end up being Ford-ed like all the rest. Gallery below and full release after the jump. &amp;ndash; Ray Wert

INTRODUCTION

&quot;Great Jaguars turn heads in the street. They make people stop and pay attention. They evoke instant desire. That's what the C-XF does and that's what the next generation of Jaguars will do.&quot; Ian Callum, Director of Design, Jaguar Cars

The C-XF concept car signals the onset of a new era for Jaguar. A stunning, four-door sports saloon which blends design purity with unmistakable dynamism, the C-XF is a clear indication of the design direction that the next generations of Jaguar saloons will take.

Designed by the same teams that produced the award-winning Jaguar XK sports GT range in 2005 - headed by Jaguar Director of Design Ian Callum and Head of Advanced Design Julian Thomson - the C-XF concept is a precursor to cars that will become recognised for their ground-breaking exterior looks and innovative interiors.

As a striking interpretation of the design values that are the bedrock of every great Jaguar, the C-XF is wholly contemporary yet succeeds in paying homage to its renowned predecessors.

&quot;The C-XF - and the future generations of sports saloons it signals - reaffirms the direction Jaguar is taking,&quot; says Bibiana Boerio, Managing Director of Jaguar Cars. &quot;When we launched the new XK sports car series, we talked about a product-led transformation of the company. We promised that new Jaguars would be beautiful, fast, glamorous and evocative. The new XK delivered on that promise and the C-XF proves that these same values and more are coming in Jaguar saloon cars.&quot;

DESIGN PHILOSOPHY &quot;One thing should be abundantly clear whenever people are discussing Jaguar design,&quot; asserts Director of Design Ian Callum. &quot;Jaguars should be seen as modern cars and in the future people will appreciate them for that.&quot;

The C-XF is a confident statement of design purity and efficiency. It possesses a sense of latent power that conveys dynamism and movement even when the car is stationary. But the design language of C-XF is about more than just performance and power - it also succeeds in blending many of Jaguar's unique heritage styling cues with bold, contemporary features, signalling how Jaguars will evolve as new generations of sports saloons go into production.

&quot;Throughout its history Jaguar has created some of the most striking, modern and beautiful sports saloons imaginable and our objective with C-XF was to recognise those principle design disciplines,&quot; explains Ian Callum. &quot;The values that I see in Jaguar aesthetics include purity, dynamism, latent power, balance and modernity.&quot;

Those Jaguar values are instantly recognisable in earlier iconic models. Founder Sir William Lyons demanded the same aesthetic correctness and every one of his legendary designs proved his skill in creating some of the most beautiful cars of all time.

The C-XF's design team took inspiration from some of Lyons' greatest cars, including the 1950 Mark VII and 1959 Mark 2 saloons. Their beautiful flowing lines were influenced by some of the great sporting Jaguars of the era including the XK120 and both display that extraordinary feeling of latent power that so signifies a Jaguar.

Ensuring that C-XF, while still a saloon, possessed the sporting profile expected of every Jaguar required maximum design efficiency - the whole exterior 'skin' had to be as tight as possible to the body architecture. This focussed the Jaguar design team on creating a car that Ian Callum describes as &quot;the absolute definition of athleticism&quot;, a performance-oriented sports saloon that is still inherently practical and capable of carrying four people in total comfort.

C-XF has a taut beauty, but it is also a car that will challenge people's preconceptions about Jaguar; it has an edginess that exudes a sense of underlying menace.

&quot;Jaguars should be perceived as cool cars,&quot; says Ian Callum, &quot;and cool cars attract interesting, edgy people. The next generations of Jaguars will do just that.&quot;

EXTERIOR STYLING Set into the front of the C-XF is a bold and aggressive grille finished in black chrome. Recessed deeply into the body rather than sitting flush with the surface, the visual effect is similar to that of an air intake on a jet engine and serves as a reminder that directly behind is a sophisticated and powerful 4.2-litre supercharged V8 engine.

&quot;Jaguars need a distinctive grille, a face,&quot; says Ian Callum. &quot;It's the classic 'car in the rear-view mirror' look, with everything powering rearwards from the grille. The C-XF is a perfect example of how to execute this successfully.&quot; The headlamps which evolve the twin-lamp motif seen on previous Jaguars into a single slim wedge, are narrow and angular. They bring an air of aggression to the C-XF's profile, while between the lamps a blue streak of light reveals an almost cat-like iris when illuminated. Subtly etched below the lenses is a unique 'tattoo' design showing an abstract Jaguar leaper logo - a tattoo that is repeated in the treadplates of the door sills and in the tread of the bespoke Pirelli tyres that surround the 21-inch machined, polished aluminium wheels.

Running backwards from the nose of the C-XF is the main feature line of the car - an unbroken shoulder that flows beneath the cabin glassline and into the haunch over the rear wheel. It is this feature, a modern interpretation of renowned Jaguar sports saloons from history, that endows C-XF with its latent power. A similarly simple line can also be seen on the new XK range and is one of the design cues that will carry forward onto the next generation of Jaguars.

Above the shoulder line sits a low and sporting cabin with aluminium brightwork highlighting the coupe feel of the car. Further sporting lines are accentuated by the muscular bonnet and the side power vents that have a functional white ceramic finish.

At the rear of the C-XF a very sculptured shoulder flows from the C-pillar into a tight, aggressively tapered tail that clearly displays traditional Jaguar design cues yet succeeds in striking an incredibly modern feel. When seen from behind, C-XF is noticeably wide and powerful, a look accentuated by the large rear diffuser. The basic principle of diffuser technology sees air being drawn from beneath the car to create a low pressure area that improves cornering grip at higher speeds.

The C-XF's colour palette is deliberately monochromatic, mixing a one-off exterior paint - Metashine silver - with areas of brightwork in either chrome or aluminium finishes. Additionally, white ceramic is used to indicate areas of dynamic air flow or heat exchange - in this case the side power vents and tailpipes.

&quot;The colour choice for the C-XF was very deliberate and is a key part of its overall dynamic,&quot; says Head of Advanced Design, Julian Thomson. &quot;We describe the effect as 'tone on tone' - we want people to think about the materials, the textures, and how they interact with the functions of the car.&quot;

Thomson continues: &quot;The tonality has a functional aspect but also extreme beauty; mechanical designs that are fit for purpose are often beautifully designed - we've taken our inspiration from machinery as diverse as aircraft to cameras in seeking to make the car look like it was milled from a solid piece of metal.&quot;

INTERIOR DESIGN Design Director Ian Callum describes the cabin of the C-XF concept car as &quot;one of the most exciting interiors Jaguar has ever done&quot;. One glimpse of the inside of the four-seater is enough to understand why Callum has this view.

The emphasis is on tailored performance rather than pampered luxury and nowhere is that better demonstrated than in the lightweight, sculpted bucket-style front seats. Trimmed in semi-aniline leather (a specially dyed hide which ensures even colouration yet retains its softness) the seats are sports-styled yet also offer impressive comfort thanks to a deeply padded lumbar area with ventilation cavities. Twin individual bucket seats house the rear-seat passengers.

Between the seats runs a tall central transmission tunnel that gives the occupants a sense of sitting deep within a futuristic cockpit. One of the keys to any Jaguar interior is that occupants should feel as if they are enclosed in the car, not sitting on it. The C-XF's interior cossets in just such a way, creating an inviting cabin for passengers to slip into, rather than surrounding them with bland, open space.

The 'tone on tone' theme that has been applied to the exterior of the C-XF has been carried through to its interior, with a sensational blend of materials, graphic elements and innovative technologies.

The focal point of the interior is a sweeping brushed aluminium facia that wraps around the cabin in a dynamic linear graphic that instils a sense of velocity. The counterpoint to the aluminium is a combination of leather and wood that takes detail of finish to a new level.

What at first sight may seem to be a simple black interior is actually a sophisticated and contemporary blend of materials including a unique carbonfibre-pattern leather and luxurious semi-aniline leather. Areas of the doors and transmission tunnel have been carved from Poplar wood and then scorched to obtain a rich satin feel. This finish was perfected by artist Clive Sheridan, who produced these beautiful burnt wood forms.

&quot;These unusual finishes allow us to explore new ideas and themes,&quot; says Alister Whelan, one of the designers responsible for the C-XF's interior. &quot;Jaguar is recognised for tailoring cars in wood and leather, but we have turned that on its head by treating these traditional materials in an unusual and contemporary fashion, obtaining beautiful textures and grains.&quot;

Whelan continues: &quot;And by using non-grain leather on the seats, it looks like they are moulded from neoprene. It was a deliberate choice not to put any stitching on them - in fact, there is no visible stitching on the interior at all, it just appears to be entirely wrapped in leather.&quot;

INNOVATION Jaguar's ethos on embracing new technologies that enhance the driver experience has long been that they should surprise, delight and inform, rather than impose themselves or bombard the user with excessive information or choice.

&quot;C-XF is a showcase for innovative technology, some of which will feature in one way or another on the next generation of Jaguar cars,&quot; says Ian Callum. &quot;Every Jaguar interior should have a sense of fun, but we also recognise that technology should only be there when you want to use it. Yes, there is a sense of theatre about the innovations we have chosen to highlight on the C-XF, but there is also an organised simplicity that brings order and structure to every system.&quot;

Perhaps the most theatrical of the features Callum references is the starting sequence. Sink into the C-XF driver's seat and a jewel-like Power button pulses on the centre console - its rhythm representing the 'heartbeat' of the car. Press the button and beneath your hand concentric aluminium rings spiral downwards to allow the new circular JaguarDrive Selector to nestle directly in your palm. Then, as the engine starts, a beam of blue light radiates from the centre of the instrument panel, chases its way around the cabin and finally envelopes the rear seats. Overhead, an electro-luminescent panel spanning the entire rooflining bathes the interior in a muted blue light to give a feeling of ambience and space. Outside, a burst of blue light from the front grille marks the moment the car's engine fires into life.

&quot;We want Jaguars to feel like they are coming alive when you start them,&quot; says Interior Designer Alister Whelan. &quot;The starting sequence achieves this through the combination of movement and light, creating a sense of theatre and delight. It is a development of the ambient illumination we introduced on the R-D6 concept car and the best example yet of how you can create a mood within a car.&quot;

Visually coming to life when being started is one thing, but sensing the requirements of an occupant without physical touch is a further, significant leap forward again. The introduction of a new prototype technology, called JaguarSense, sees four sensors hidden within the doors react to the sweep of your hand as it passes over them. Once activated, the inner door handles - previously hidden - motor outwards ready to be used.

A fifth sensor, located in the facia, responds to the proximity of your hand to reveal an infotainment screen that lies flush within the aluminium front panel. The sequence continues with the centre section of the dashboard rotating 90 degrees to display an advanced Dual View screen which is capable of projecting two different images to the driver and passenger simultaneously. For example, the driver can view satellite-navigation instructions while the passenger watches a DVD-based movie.

The Dual View system works by utilising a parallax barrier to divide light into individual viewing cones for the passenger and driver, allowing each front-seat occupant to view their own personalised display. The Dual View system, which has been developed for Jaguar by mobile media specialists Alpine, uses a 262,144 colour amorphous silicon TFT screen.

Also contained within the rotating panel are air vents that, like the screen, are hidden from view until the driver requires them. This is in complete harmony with the overall sophistication of the driver environment. Behind the single-spoke steering wheel with 'floating' gear-selector paddles sits a dial cluster that has been inspired by the cockpit of an airplane. The main central dial - the rev counter - has graphics reminiscent of an artificial horizon instrument from an aircraft. The dials also respond to the way C-XF is being driven. If the driver puts the transmission into sporting Dynamic mode, the rev counter motors outwards (in the way a long lens on an SLR camera operates), ensuring its increased prominence.

Driving C-XF in a more relaxed manner would allow occupants to enjoy an audio experience of the highest quality. Visually stunning honeycomb speaker panels are set into the rear parcel shelf and front facia top. Designed by Jaguar and created by leading British loudspeaker manufacturer Bowers &amp; Wilkins, the beautiful cat's eye-shaped designs are aesthetic yet functional works of art.

&quot;Bowers &amp; Wilkins is renowned for its audio engineering expertise,&quot; says Julian Thomson, Head of Advanced Design, &quot;Its dedicated pursuit of the perfect loudspeaker has led to many design innovations, including the use of materials such as Kevlar and diamond. It is no surprise that B&amp;W speakers serve as the 'audio reference' speaker at London's famous Abbey Road Studios.

&quot;The speaker panels provide a perfect aesthetic while serving a unique function. The honeycomb Micro-Matrix ensures rigid mounting and at the same time improved speaker performance. They are beautifully crafted pieces of engineering.&quot;

All of these features are prime examples of how the introduction of new technologies can be implemented by blending simplicity of design with practical innovation - and more importantly they give an early preview of what lies ahead for Jaguar customers.

POWERTRAIN (COMPONENTRY) Beneath the C-XF's bonnet, further technical excellence is immediately apparent. The car is powered by an enhanced version of Jaguar's renowned 4.2-litre supercharged V8 engine. Tuned to produce in excess of 420bhp and 500Nm of torque - the latter produced from very low revs - this proven powerplant and its six-speed automatic transmission with Jaguar Sequential Shift manual gearchange capability, deliver superb sporting performance. If C-XF were a production car, it would reach an electronically limited top speed of 155mph, with the possibility of an unrestricted speed in excess of 180mph.

And the technology advances continue here, too, with the electrical architecture for the 4.2-litre engine encased in a unique carbon-fibre wiring 'loom'. Designed and constructed by Beru F1 Systems, the electrical 'spider' harness is not only beautiful but also extremely functional.

&quot;The new wiring loom is a designer's dream,&quot; says Julian Thomson. &quot;We thought we would always have to live with the plethora of wires that runs around an engine bay. Now every wire is housed within a visually stunning harness that looks as if it is literally strapping the engine down, holding all that power in place.&quot;

The C-XF is the first car ever to use Beru F1 System's unique Wire in Composite (WIC) technology. WIC completely encloses all wiring in a bespoke carbon-fibre sleeve, protecting it from damage and also improving durability, packaging, weight and aesthetics. As the first vehicle to use the technology, the C-XF leaps ahead of upcoming debuts in both Formula 1 motor racing and the aerospace industry - and allows Jaguar to further investigate production car potential for the system.

JAGUAR C-XF SUMMARY The C-XF is not just another concept car - it is much more than that.

The exterior design is pure, athletic and, of course, beautiful.

The striking interior design uses traditional materials, but fashioned in new and contemporary ways.

The four-seat cabin - sufficiently spacious but not a bland, featureless expanse - is a welcoming, rewarding place to be.

The technologies and innovations are typical of the features on a Jaguar - and preview others that are still under development.

The powertrain - a supercharged V8 of proven excellence and a sophisticated six-speed automatic that delivers lightning-quick manual gearchanges thanks to the Jaguar Sequential Shift System - is perfectly suited to a true sports saloon.

The sum of the C-XF parts is impressive enough, but the whole - an exciting, modern, dynamic sports saloon that evokes absolute desire - is an extraordinary preview of the Jaguars of tomorrow.

&quot;The Jaguar C-XF concept is the most dynamic and modern four-door car that Jaguar has ever created, a design showcase heralding the next generations of our sports saloon models. It signals a future for Jaguar that is as exciting as the C-XF itself.&quot; Ian Callum, Design Director, Jaguar Cars

Our story continues in the late fall of 2006 in upstate New York. Gary, now 68, puts the Volkswagen Bug camper he inherited from the estate of his lady, Janet, who was killed in a grinding scrapbooking accident, up for sale. &quot;It's all I have left,&quot; he says, &quot;If you don't count my collection of jaundice photos and this duffel bag full of obscure tools I won in an impromptu Chinese checkers tournament.&quot; The asking price is $20,000. Just enough, Gary says, to pay his debts and fulfill a lifelong dream of opening his very own root cellar. Godspeed, Gary. [Thanks to Matt for the tip.] &amp;ndash; Mike Spinelli

            <description>Microsoft has released the results of a study they commissioned from the International Data Corporation that says Windows Vista is going to have a major positive impact on the economy. They do a lot of these, and we can only assume they only release the results of the studies that say happy things about Microsoft products.This study says Windows Vista will create 100,000 new jobs in the United States and drive $70 billion in revenues for Microsoft partners and the tech industry in its first 12 months. They say that for every dollar Microsoft makes on Vista, the tech industry makes $18.All interesting stuff, but here&amp;#8217;s the brass tacks: Windows Me was a failure, and Windows 2000 didn&amp;#8217;t do so great. Microsoft released three operating systems in quick succession after Windows 98, and didn&amp;#8217;t get it right until Windows XP. The only thing that matters is if they can avoid that disaster this time around. I&amp;#8217;m banking they will.Source: http://microsoft.blognewschannel.com/archives/2006/12/12/vista-to-generate-70-billion-and-create-100000-jobs-and-it-does-the-dishes-too/ Nathan Weinberg</description>

            <link>http://www.jouwnieuws.nl/First_OLPC_laptops_make_it_out_the_door.html</link>
            <description>After much anticipation and hordes of coverage, the first OLPC (&amp;#36100 laptops) laptops are being shipped. Only 10 units so far have made it out the door, and are going to be evaluated as beta hardware to see how they function. Once everything clears, another 900 are planned and will be sent to the OLPC project, for distribution in various parts of the world. The pictures of it make it look quite like a toy, but closer examination reveals a fairly rugged machines with an ample screen, keyboard, touchpad and antennas. Interesting stuff. <description>
September's always an important sales month, as it's the last month of the model year. The usual &quot;who's up, who's down&quot; takes on even more meaning as automakers hustle to prove they're kings of the 12-month spread. As such, we'll be covering September sales with equal parts vim and vigor throughout the day. That means if you're ADD for the most up-to-the-minute figures, make our sales tag your home page today. (Hell...why don't you just go ahead and make our site your home page for every day?) But before any official releases from the automakers hit the wires and before the phones get hot and sweaty from the sales conference calls, we've already got some fun for you -- the pundits. That's right, they're knee deep in tea leaves, trying to divine September's numbers. CNNMoney's senior editor Alex Taylor wields his sextant to help us navigate the monthly sales waters together.

An Osaka prison guard arrested for granting favors to a gang boss said he did it for the money, investigative sources said.&amp;#xD;
Katsuhiko Kuwano, 37, a guard at the Osaka Detention House, was arrested over the weekend for bribery. He stands accused of having Seiki Kin pay travel expenses to Tokyo Disney Resort and Atami hot spa area in August 2004 for him and his family members. The guard also received a car from the gang boss.&amp;#xD;

            <title>Oh-Ho-Ho, It's The 2007 Chevy Aveo!</title>
            <link>http://www.jouwnieuws.nl/Oh-Ho-Ho%2C_It%27s_The_2007_Chevy_Aveo%21.html</link>
            <description>
Chevy dropped the tarp on the 2007 version of its 37 mpg subcompact, giving one of us the opportunity to see it up close and personal, even allowing us to lay our hands on the supple perforated leather leather-like leatherette interior (at only $250 more!) and stroke the many included amenities (can someone say aux in?) in this value-oriented car. Although there were no test drives today boys and girls -- we can tell you that this car is all about saving you the benjamins, so although what we hear about the performance leaves much to be desired (including the days best quote -- &quot;Does the 13 second 0-60 performance give you cause for concern?&quot;)you can basically afford it with a newspaper route -- the 4-door we saw has a base price of $12,395. Check out the pics below and click the jump for the press release.

showGallery('2007 Chevrolet Aveo', 'jalopnik');ALL-NEW 2007 CHEVROLET AVEO SEDAN: YOUTHFUL REFINEMENT INSIDE AND OUT

Only 2.5 years since it was introduced, Chevrolet introduces a redesigned Chevrolet Aveo sedan. The 2007 Aveo sedan boasts an all-new exterior and roomy interior design characterized by youthful refinement; a more confident, dynamic driving experience and generous features usually seen in more expensive cars. It was designed to challenge expectations of what an entry-level car can deliver.

&quot;Customers will recognize the Aveo sedan as a 'smart buy' that delivers on Chevy's Total Value Promise,&quot; said Ed Peper, Chevrolet general manager. &quot;With its good looks, enjoyable driving experience and 'big car' personality, Aveo plays a big role in Chevy's passenger car family.&quot;

In redesigning the sedan, the Aveo team reached beyond the important affordability factor to overachieve all-around, with great design, a smooth, safe driving experience and amenities that until now were rare in the segment.

The 2007 Aveo sedan is available in LS and LT models, and illustrates Chevy's philosophy of offering more for less. Both models offer many standard features and an impressive range of options. The 2007 Aveo sedan builds on advancements, such as standard side-impact air bags, implemented during the 2006 model year. The new LS and LT sedans join the Aveo5 hatchback LS and Special Value Model. (Please see separate release for more information on Aveo5).

The Aveo sedan is well-equipped, with standard features that include a five-speed manual transmission; 1.6L 16-valve E-TEC II DOHC that delivers 103 horsepower (77kW) and 107 lb.-ft. of torque; air conditioning with cabin filtration and rear-seat air vents; vented front disc and rear drum brakes; stainless steel exhaust; and front MacPherson strut suspension with rear semi-independent with torsion beam suspension.

Other standard features include:
?	Power rack-and-pinion steering
?	Intermittent windshield wipers
?	Dual-stage frontal driver and passenger air bags and seat-mounted side-impact air bags
?	Body-color outside rearview mirrors and door handles
?	AM/FM stereo radio with auxiliary input jack (for an iPod or other device)
?	Driver's seat with fold-down armrest, manual height adjuster and manual lumbar adjuster
?	60/40 split-folding rear seats with height-adjustable head restraints for outboard passengers
?	Tilt steering wheel
?	Tilting head restraints

?	Mud guards

Crisp, modern exterior design
The 2007 Aveo sedan is high in style and progressive in attitude. It is longer, wider and taller than its predecessor and features crisp, sculpted lines and a wide, confident stance. The design skillfully creates the illusion of a larger car through attributes such as contoured side feature lines that rise from front to rear, pronounced &quot;shoulders&quot; over the wheel openings and body-color door sills.

Aveo sedan's V-shaped hood lines point to its distinctively Chevy front fascia, which boasts a chrome-accented grille with prominent cross bar and iconic gold bowtie emblem. The sedan's new, more assertive and dynamic look is highlighted by premium cues, including three-dimensional, richly detailed headlamps that extend into the hood, available front fog lamps and bold, round taillamps, which are set within jeweled bezels.

Contributing to Aveo sedan's more aerodynamic design is the incorporation of the radio antenna into the rear glass. Extensive wind tunnel testing also helped reduce the coefficient of drag from 0.348 to a more slippery 0.326, compared to the previous model.

The redesigned Chevy Aveo sedan represents the new global face of Chevrolet design for the more than 120 countries where Aveo is being introduced.

Refined interior with a modern twist
The new Aveo sedan cabin reflects a youthful interpretation of refinement. Its signature &quot;tall car&quot; design and generous dimension offer ample interior space - capable of accommodating passengers more than 6 feet tall in each of the five seating positions. An enhanced combination of sound-dampening technologies and improved aerodynamics provides a quiet and comfortable ride, even at higher speeds.

The contemporary appearance of the 2007 Aveo sedan's interior is achieved through integrated components, meticulous craftsmanship and complementary colors in three different interior design packages. Striking features, including a two-tone scheme, rich instrumentation; attractive accents (metallic grain and satin chrome for charcoal and charcoal deluxe cloth upholstery, respectively; wood grain appearance for neutral cloth and neutral deluxe cloth and available neutral perforated leatherette) provide visual and tactile interest. Precision in fit and finish details caps the Aveo sedan's high-quality appearance.

The sedan's interior was designed for maximum comfort and convenience, which is evidenced in elements such as standard tilting front-seat headrests, a folding driver's armrest and lower-profile rear-seat headrests. Additional conveniences include dual visor vanity mirrors, a sunglass holder on the driver side headliner, door and seatback storage pockets; and clever hooks, located on headrest posts, that can hold items such as backpacks or shopping bags.

Theater-style rear seating provides a commanding view for all passengers. A fully reclining front passenger seat and a 60/40-split folding rear seat expand Aveo's interior cargo capacity, enabling long items, such as skis, to be carried between the trunk and passenger compartment. The trunk offers 12.4 cubic feet (350L) of storage space, more than the previous model.

More value is delivered through the tilt-adjustable steering wheel, six-way adjustable front seats (with manual lumbar adjustment on driver seat), on-key remote keyless entry (no separate fob) and available cruise control.

Aveo sedan's radios are derived from GM's new family of premium radio systems, distinguished by upscale appearance, simplicity of operation and range of features and capabilities. An auxiliary input jack for iPods, satellite radio accessories and other devices is standard on all radios. The base radio is an AM/FM stereo with four speakers. A CD/MP3-capable ratio with six-speaker sound system is available, as is a six-disc in-dash CD changer radio. Steering wheel audio controls are available.

A high-quality driving experience comes from a strong vehicle body that is well insulated. Extensive sound insulation, enhanced even further for 2007, helps minimize wind, road and engine noise inside the cabin. Even the stainless steel exhaust system is tuned to reduce noise.

A dynamic driving experience

The 2007 Aveo sedan was engineered and validated for a broad range of driving and road conditions around the world and tuned for a dynamic, well-planted driving experience.

The chassis systems on the 2007 Aveo reflect further refinements of features developed for the 2006 models, which were enhanced significantly compared to earlier versions of the car.

The suspension system begins with a MacPherson strut front suspension with coil springs and stabilizer bar and an independent torsion beam axle mount compound link-type rear suspension with gas-charged shocks.

Power-assisted, variable-rate rack-and-pinion steering is standard. The steering gear is mounted on the front suspension cross member for precise action and stability.

Standard on the Aveo sedan are power-assisted front disc and rear drum brakes; a four-channel ABS system is available. The four-sensor - one at each wheel - system incorporates electronic brake force distribution, which balances braking performance based on factors including road conditions and the weight of passengers and/or cargo.
For 2007, the focus is on delivering more refined, precise ride and handling characteristics for more confident high-speed road command and agile, responsive control, especially in more demanding driving situations such as rapid lane changes at highway speeds.

New drive-enhancing features on the 2007 Aveo sedan include:

?	A wide, solid stance and long wheelbase (97.6 inches / 2479 mm) with a front tread of 57.1 inches and rear tread of 56.3 inches (compared to 55.5 inches in 2006) deliver a smooth, confident, stable ride. This wide footprint is among the best in class, making the car very surefooted, imparting a sense of confidence and stability among driver and passengers.

?	A 17-mm front stabilizer bar combined with higher rate front springs and more highly damped front shocks minimize the amount of vehicle roll and increase the roll damping to provide more precise control for the driver. New suspension bushings also contribute to the precise handling control. This fully retuned suspension package provides a distinctively European-style performance and feel.

?	Valve tuning in the rack and pinion hydraulic-assist steering system is consistent with the suspension tuning to provide more precise control.

Fifteen-inch, five-spoke aluminum wheels are standard on LT and available on LS, which also offers available 14-inch aluminum wheels. Fourteen-inch steel wheels with a redesigned bolt-on wheel cover are standard on LS.

Responsive powertrain

Powering Aveo is GM's proven, sophisticated 16-valve DOHC four-cylinder engine that produces 103 horsepower (77 kW)* and 107 lb.-ft. of torque (148 Nm)*. The engine is enhanced by an electronic throttle control, added for the 2006 model year, and variable geometry induction system, which help maximize power across the rpm range. Electronic throttle control enhances driveability and fuel economy, while reducing emissions.

The engine's variable geometry induction system is designed with a longer runner length at slower speeds to increase low-end torque up to 10 percent. The system includes a bypass valve that is activated in high rpm or heavy throttle applications. Features include:
?	A roller type cam follower to minimize valve friction and noise and enhance fuel economy
?	A plastic engine upper cover for noise dampening / quieter operation
?	A single serpentine accessory belt drive system with automatic tensioner
?	An engine cooling fan system with 366-mm diameter fan

A smooth-shifting, five-speed manual transmission is standard. The available Aisin four-speed automatic transmission features adaptive shift technology. The segment-exclusive Hold Control Mode special feature helps reduce wheel spin and traction loss on slick roads by allowing the driver to select and hold a higher gear, which reduces torque to the wheels. It enables sportier driving operation by allowing the driver to control shift points similar to manual transmission operation.

Whether the manual or automatic transmission is selected, the Aveo powertrain is fuel-efficient. Estimated EPA fuel economy is 27 mpg city/37 mpg highway for the manual-equipped Aveo sedan and 26 mpg city/34 mpg highway for the automatic-equipped Aveo sedan.** Aveo meets the ULEV II emissions standard which, along with its outstanding fuel economy, makes it one of the cleanest, most economical vehicles available in North America.

Safe and secure
The Aveo sedan experience is enhanced by a comprehensive system of safety and security technologies designed to meet safety standards in markets around the globe. For the 2006 model, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) awarded Aveo a five-star rating in the frontal crash test for both the driver and front passenger.

Aveo's safety starts with a high-strength steel structure that creates a safety cage around the passenger compartment. The structure has been engineered to help maintain passenger compartment integrity and features tailor-welded blanks, a feature not typically found on vehicles in the segment.

The 2007 Aveo sedan includes standard advanced dual-stage frontal air bags and the Passenger Sensing System. The dual-stage frontal air bags deploy at different levels, depending on the severity of the crash. Standard seat-mounted side-impact air bags provide additional head and thorax protection.

Additional Aveo sedan safety and security features include:
?	Front safety belt pretensioners with front-load limiters
?	Height-adjustable shoulder belt anchors
?	Lower Anchors and Top Tether for Children (LATCH) child seat attachment system in the rear seats
?	Rear child safety door locks
?	Emergency hatch release inside the trunk
?	Fuel door lock with remote release feature
?	Available engine immobilizer theft-deterrent system
Aveo and Chevrolet's global expansion
In 2005, 68,085 Aveos were sold in the United States, signaling that there is an opportunity for growth in the small but important subcompact segment.
The Aveo lineup attracts the highest rate of first-time buyers of any GM vehicle, providing a great opportunity to earn these customers' long-term loyalty. Like the small, premium-car Cobalt family and the HHR small crossover vehicle, Aveo also generates a high number of conquest sales.
The Aveo is making inroads around the world, and will be sold in more than 120 countries under several nameplates (primarily under the Chevrolet brand). It is the top-selling car produced by GM Daewoo in Korea (GMDAT). About half of vehicles produced by GMDAT are Chevrolet models. The number is steadily rising as the expertise and quality record of GM's Korean subsidiary and Chevy's tradition of &quot;more than expected&quot; value increasingly resonate around the globe.
The Aveo is the top-selling Chevy model in Europe and is a great contributor to the brand's global expansion.
*A new voluntary power and torque certification procedure developed by the SAE Engine Test Code committee was approved March 31, 2005. This procedure (J2723) ensures fair, accurate ratings for horsepower and torque by allowing manufacturers to certify their engines through third-party witness testing. GM was the first auto manufacturer to begin using the procedure and expects to use it for all newly rated engines in the future.

** Based on GM testing. Official EPA estimates not yet available.
