Alles over Neuros OSD Linux Media Recorder Beta | rss feed | toevoegen | e-mail nieuwsalarm | Software Headlines :: Index | 2006-09-25 09:36:55
The Neuros Recorder 2 was quite a legendary device by its own right, but the new Neuros OSD Linux Media Recorder Beta aims to expand on its predecessor by offering a media center device which can be connected to your TV to a PC as well as other portable devices, enabling the user to carry their media no matter where they are. Since the OSD runs on open source firmware, imagine the possibilities for those who are great in programming previously unthought of features. The OSD comes with a wide range of ports including analog video/audio input and output, Ethernet, USB, IrDA, and CF/SD/MMC card slots. ThinkGeek has already exhausted their supply despite the $229 price tag attached to it. The official Neuros OSD Linux Media Recorder ought to be released sometime in the middle of next month. Alles over Monolith Media Center brings MythTV to the technophobe | rss feed | toevoegen | e-mail nieuwsalarm | Software Headlines :: Index | 2006-08-17 05:09:23
Filed under: Desktops, HDTV, Media PCsIf MythTVs promise of a free Windows Media Center alternative sounds exciting, but you cant quite bring yourself to navigate the trials of a Linux install on your own, then you might be interested in Monoliths pre-built Media Center PCs, which come with MythTV pre-installed on top of Ubuntu Linux. Models start at $650, and include a remote, an IRBlaster, and free electronic programming guide access none of those silly TiVo-style monthly fees. Specs range from a single analog tuner to dual HDTV tuners, and you can get a 400GB HDD and DVD burner as well. The 3.2GHz P4 CPU isnt exactly cutting edge, but all the same, the Monolith box should be fine for someone who doesnt want to mess with setup, and isnt afraid to spend a bit more than they would otherwise.Read | Permalink | Email this | Linking [&]Source: http://www.gigabeat.co.uk/blog/08/16/2006/linux/monolith-media-center-brings-mythtv-to-the-technophobe http://www.softwareheadlines.com/modules/planet/view.article.php/26629
Alles over Windows Vista Media Center: Just My Size | rss feed | toevoegen | e-mail nieuwsalarm | Software Headlines :: Index | 2006-08-05 12:58:52
I don't usually post screenshots of features from interim builds, but I discovered something cool enough today that I have to make an exception. One of my pet peeves with Media Center in the past has been the limitation in the minimum size of the window. It used to be too big to have the window always be on top, and still work... I was left to compromise.Well, now in one of the latest builds (I won't say which so maybe I can keep getting them) Media Center's window has a new absolute minimum. Check out the screenshots, these are actual size. Yeah... I was watching "America's Got Talent". Sue me. I still think the UI buttons are way too small... they don't resize at all. Now, if only I could have a TV window docked in the Sidebar... then it might actually be useful to me (the Sidebar, not TV).Source: http://www.longhornblogs.com/robert/archive/2006/08/05/Windows_Vista_Media_Center_is_Just_My_Size.aspx admin http://www.softwareheadlines.com/modules/planet/view.article.php/21642
Alles over Dream'eo Enza 20GB Portable Media Center Only $169.99 | rss feed | toevoegen | e-mail nieuwsalarm | Gizmodo | 2006-08-03 03:35:34
The Dream'eo Enza just had its prices slashed to $169, which makes it a very cheap option for Windows Media Center '05 owners to take their recorded shows on the go. The low, low price is $139 cheaper than a 30GB iPod Video, which requires re-encoding of files if you want to watch your shows on it because there's no support for Media Center's default dvr-ms recorded format.
The price cuts are probably here as a precursor to the upcoming Zune launch to get all the old PMC units out of the way. Either way, 20 gigs in a player that plays back ASF, JPEG, MP3, WMA, and WMV files for $169 is a good deal. – Jason Chen

Alles over Dell's XPS M2010 Media Center Remote Is Pretty Neat | rss feed | toevoegen | e-mail nieuwsalarm | Gizmodo | 2006-07-18 20:53:24
The one feature of that huge Dell XPS M2010 LapDeskTop that hasn't been talked about is the Media Center Edition remote that ships with it. Instead of RF, IR or WiFi, this remote uses wireless USB that connects to connect with the M2010.
Using wUSB, the remote is capable of two way communication and can grab metadata from the computer to display relevant info, say, the volume. There's also the gyroscopic mouse technology for navigating menus, courtesy of the OEM, Gyration.
Unfortunately if you don't want to dish out close to $4,000 for an XPS M2010, you can't find this remote anywhere else on the market. However, since it's made by Gyration, there could be a generic OEM version due out in the future. – Jason Chen

Alles over Watch YouTube in Windows Media Center | rss feed | toevoegen | e-mail nieuwsalarm | Software Headlines :: Index | 2006-07-18 16:41:54
Filed under: Video, Windows, FreewareFile this under why-didn't-I-think-of-that: YouTubeMCE is an add-on that integrates YouTube with Windows Media Center Edition. It lets you browse, search, and view YouTube videos without leaving your couch. It lets you watch videos in full-screen mode, but as lousy as those videos look on your 19" monitor, don't expect them to look fantastic on your 52" one. YouTubeMCE is free. (As pointed out in the comments at Engadget, for those rocking XBMC there's a script that does the same thing, as well as one for Google Video. Alles over Elisa: An open source, cross-platform media center | rss feed | toevoegen | e-mail nieuwsalarm | Software Headlines :: Index | 2006-07-13 19:27:52
Filed under: Audio, Photo, Video, Linux, Open SourceLooking to build a media center PC? You're certainly not limited when it comes to media center software, but Elisa Media Center stands out for a couple of reasons. It's open source and built for Linux, but on top of that, it looks pretty slick. The screenshots and screencast show a product that looks fast, responsive, and professional. It has most of the features you'd expect, including support for a variety of video and audio formats, plus photo slideshows, DVD playback, and web radio. However, Elisa Media Center is still in very early development--in fact, the very first version, 0.0.1, was released on Monday. But if you're not afraid of crashes and really low version numbers, it looks worth checking out.Read | Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | CommentsSource: http://feeds.downloadsquad.com/~r/weblogsinc/downloadsquad/~3/http%3A%2F%2Fwww.downloadsquad.com%2F2006%2F07%2F13%2Felisa-an-open-source-cross-platform-media-center%2F Jordan Running http://www.softwareheadlines.com/modules/planet/view.article.php/15013
Alles over Liquid-Cooled Sony Vaio XL100 Media Center | rss feed | toevoegen | e-mail nieuwsalarm | Gizmodo | 2006-07-12 23:04:19
Sony has been pumping out these XL series Vaio media centers for quite some time now and still nobody seems to want to buy one, until now. First we saw the Vaio XL1 then we saw the Vaio XL2 and now they have jumped 98 models ahead with the latest, the Sony Vaio XL100. I'm going to skip all of the mumbo jumbo with specs and such because they are usually all the same. I'm going straight to the best factors about the XL100.
First, this thing has HDMI. Nuff' said. Secondly and debatably more important if you are a bigger computer geek than home theatre geek, this machine is liquid cooled. No longer will a humming machine disturb your home theatre watching, this machine is damn near silent because of the liquid-y goodness that is flowing across the components. Did I mention it looks cool as hell? But would you expect anything else from Sony? This machine showed up on the Sony U.K. site, no word on U.S. availability or pricing. – Travis Hudson

Alles over Flickr Windows Media Center Plugin | rss feed | toevoegen | e-mail nieuwsalarm | Gizmodo | 2006-06-21 03:34:07
Love browsing your photos on your HDTV with your Media Center machine, but wish you could browse all of Flickr? You're in luck, as Mobileware just released a free beta of its Big Screen Photos application. You can browse flickr galleries, search for photos by tags, people, meta data, and even customize the look by changing the theme. Did we mention that it's free?
The software requires you to have Microsoft.NET v3 (WinFX Runtine Components), which is currently still in beta. If you're uncomfortable with installing beta software like .NET and this program you may want to skip it. However, Big Screen Photos is going to no longer be free when the beta's over, so you may want to get in now and save a copy just in case. – Jason Chen
