Earlier this month, ChangeWave Research conducted a mobile phone customer survey which concluded that of the 3,645 US iPhone owners surveyed 82% reported being Very Satisfied with their purchase, up five points since the previous survey in July and by far the highest rating of any mobile manufacturer. iPhone market share climbed to 2% (from 1% in July), the research revealed. The research also found that 16% of respondents who plan to purchase a phone in the next six months plan to buy an iPhone - placing Apple up at the top among all manufacturers.Although Motorola remained the leading mobile phone manufacturer with 30% of the US market, its dominance fell one point from 31% in the previous survey - suggesting Apple stole the most market from Motorola. athloi writes "The University of Michigan's American Consumer Satisfaction Index shows some significant shifts this year in consumer satisfaction among several major online players: Google, Yahoo, Ask, and AOL. For one, Google no longer holds first place. 'The ACSI report notes that Yahoo's jump into first place was a 4 percent increase over its score from last year, while Google saw a 4 percent decrease during the same time period. ACSI says that to the untrained eye, Google's home page today looks almost identical to the way it looked years ago. This is where Google's simplicity is apparently hurting it in the long-term, as new users just aren't seeing Google's new offerings--such as increased storage options, additions to Google Maps, and tweaks to Google Image Search--right in front of their faces like they do with other sites.'"Read more of this story at Slashdot.

Morgan Securities, stating that Google Checkout has had a relatively quick and modest market penetration of six percent since its launch in June of 2006, but lags behind in customer satisfaction vs PayPal. On the customer satisfaction front, only 18.8 percent reported having a 'good' or 'very good' experience with Google Checkout, while 81.2 percent indicated a fair to poor experience customer experience compared to PayPal's 44.2 percent reporting good experiences. Some users have reported anecdotally that Google Checkout mistakenly canceled sales without warning or that the checkout process took too long."

Computer manufacturer Dell is to focus on customer satisfaction, which it admitted on Wednesday it "had not done perfectly in the past". The company is investing 贶m in customer relationships this year,said chairman Michael Dell in New York on Tuesday. He hopes the business plan, called Dell 2.0, will reverse the flagging fortunes of the biggest computer maker in the world. Recent woes have included apoor quarterly earnings report and exploding laptop batteries. Dell had to recall 4.1 million laptop batteries in August after several Dell laptops exploded into flames earlier this year. "We weren't living up to the standards our customers were expecting insome areas of our business," chairman Michael Dell told ZDNet UK."We've [therefore] announced significant investments," he added. Chief executive Kevin Rollins said the change will "involve deepening customer relationships, and customising the entire customer experience, placing a greater emphasis on services tailored to individual customers". Rollins admitted that the company needs to "broaden customer relationships by listening and evaluating more". He added: "This is a shift from a transactional model to value created over the lifetime of a customer relationship. Dell plans to invest more in its sales channels, both in sales contacts and its online presence, in its Web site front and back end. The company also wants to expand the scope of Dell Connect, which enables a Dell technician to take control of a customer's system should they be encountering problems. Newly published data from the American Customer Satisfaction Index show that Apple leads other personal computer manufacturers, beating out Dell, HP and others. On a 100 point scale, Apple merited a score of 83, according to the ACSI, a 2.5 percent year-over-year increase and a 7.8 percent increase from 1995, the first year the ACSI measured the PC industry. The annual ACSI is sponsored by the American Society for Quality and University of Michigan's M. Ross School of Business. It's derived from phone interviews with customers contacted by using digital-dial telephone samples. More than 70000 consumers are identified and interviewed annually.

Recent E SOURCE research shows that, for utilities, 34% of overall customer satisfaction is determined by the quality of customer service operations. Customer service satisfaction, it turns out, is not something created only in the call center; there are opportunities throughout the utility to serve the customer. And customer service has a more important role in influencing electric and gas utility customer satisfaction than the 4 to 6 percent implied by J.D. Power and Associates satisfaction studies. As one of the few areas a utility has control over, customer service plays a crucial role in mitigating the satisfaction fallout from rising prices, weather-related outages, or even a utility scandal. Through E SOURCE case studies and interviews with 15 companies that have made drastic improvements in their customer satisfaction scores, we were able to identify more than 20 different steps utilities have taken to improve their customer service and customer satisfaction. In interview after interview, three themes recur: keep the customers in mind, communicate with customers, and treat employees well.
