School officials and Nassau police are trying to figure out how pranksters were able to get a car up to the roof of Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK High School.
Students arriving at school yesterday saw the pink car covered with green question marks on top of the building. Nassau County Police say a towing company removed the car, which consisted of only a shell with no engine.

The big question of "Who Killed the Electric Car?" will have to be set aside momentarily while electronic car enthusiasts everywhere attempt to figure out the significantly less important question -- "Who Killed the Electric Car -- At The Smithsonian?" It seems the Smithsonian National Museum of American History removed their 1997 GM-built EV1 sedan from display. An interesting and conspiracy-laden decision, considering interest in the vehicle's been ratcheted-up with the movie's premiere on June 30th. Conspiracy theorists, go ahead and don those aluminum foil hats now, because although GM claims it didn't pressure the Smithsonian to pull the car and the museum claims they needed the space for another vehicle -- that "other vehicle?" It's a souped-up SUV. (thanks to David for dropping us this one like it's hot)

Say that ten times fast. Our life hackin' sister-site sent us over a link to this bit of Google-y goodness -- the Google 'Used Car' search. It's fast, it's easy and it's fun -- just like a life-hack should be. It does however make us wonder how much longer until Google just decides to build cars on its own -- then all consumer goods -- and then...the...planet! Soon, Google will be invincible! Mark our words. But for now, be content with just searching for a used car.

18-year-old Floridian Floyd Jolly and his 14-year-old girlfriend are cooling their heels in the big house (or the juvenile house, in her case) after having been busted for stealing around 50 vehicles from a four-county region. Jolly had recently been released from prison on -- of all things -- auto theft charges. Yo ho ho, Floyd, the pirate life is obviously one you're pretty big on. Now get thee to the brig, scoundrel. No word as to whether the girl will be shuttled off to a nunnery.

Het is onrustig in de Champ Car World Series. Na vier races zijn er plots een aantal coureurs die van team veranderen. En dat gebeurt niet bij de minste teams. Zowel bij Forsythe als bij RuSport wordt er gewisseld van coureur.
Het lijkt er op dat Jerry Forsythe de fouten van Mario Dominguez zat is. Al twee keer veroorzaakte de Mexicaan dit seizoen een crash waarbij zijn teamgenoot, Paul Tracy, werd uitgeschakeld. De officiële verklaring van het team luidt dat beide coureurs een zeer verschillende set-up voor de wagen nodig hebben, wat de ontwikkeling van de wagen tegenhoudt. Om dit op te lossen was een herstructurering nodig waarbij het doek voor Dominguez viel.
Een nette manier om te zeggen dat ze genoeg hebben van de Mexicaan. Zelf beweert deze dat hij de eer aan zichzelf heeft gehouden. "Ik en mijn management hebben besloten te vertrekken. Ik zat in een positie waarin ik de nummer twee van het team zou moeten spelen, terwijl het kampioenschap net begonnen is. Daarom is het beter voor mij om een team te zoeken waar ik de leider kan zijn."
De meest waarschijnlijke opvolger van Dominguez is AJ Allmendinger. De Amerikaan moest deze week plotseling vertrekken bij het team van RuSport. Dat terwijl hij behoorlijke resultaten behaalde. Allmendinger moet plaats maken voor Cristiano da Matta, de Champ Car kampioen van 2002. Da Matta krijgt daarmee weer de kans om zich te mengen in de strijd om het kampioenschap. Dat was bij het team waar hij tot voor kort reed, Dale Coyne, niet mogelijk.
Een naam die wordt genoemd om plaats te nemen in de nu lege wagen van Dale Coyne is, jawel, Mario Dominguez. Daarmee zou de cirkel rond zijn. Ook de naam van Ronnie Bremer, die vorig jaar voor het team reed, wordt echter genoemd. LONG BEACH - Autocoureur Robert Doornbos begint zondag de Grote Prijs van Long Beach, de tweede race uit de Amerikaanse Indy Racing League, vanaf de vijftiende startplek. De Nederlander klokte zaterdag (plaatselijke tijd) op het stratencircuit 1 minuut en 10,9577 seconden.Hij was ruim een seconde langzamer dan de Australiër Will Power, die poleposition veroverde in een tijd van 1.09,7107. Doornbos, die rijdt voor het team Newman/Haas/Lanigan, finishte twee weken geleden in de openingsrace in St. Petersburg als elfde.Vorig weekeinde kwam de Rotterdammer uit voor Team Holland in de A1GP. Hij won toen de sprintrace.

Doornbos vijftiende in zevende race Indycars
NEWTON - Robert Doornbos wacht nog altijd op succes in de Indycars. De Nederlandse autocoureur behaalde zondag in de zevende race van de Amerikaanse autosportklasse de vijftiende plaats. De Rotterdammer viel al snel uit op de Iowa Speedway in Newton met mechanische pech. Later in de race kwam hij weer terug om alsnog de nodige ronden te rijden.De winst was voor de Schot Dario Franchitti. Hij liep iets in op klassementsleider Ryan Briscoe, die tweede werd. Het verschil bedraagt 3 punten. Doornbos bezet in de tussenstand van de Indy Racing League de vijftiende plaats.

SEVILLA - De lijst met nominaties voor de European Film Awards bevat dit jaar geen Nederlandse speelfilms. Het zijn vooral titels als Gomorra (Italië), Entre les Murs (Frankrijk), El Orfanato (Spanje) en Waltz with Bashir (Israël) die veel kansen maken op prijzen bij de uitreiking op 6 december.
Dat heeft de organisatie zondag bekendgemaakt. De speelfilm Duska van regisseur Jos Stelling, die was geselecteerd als Nederlandse inzending, viel in alle categorieën buiten de boot.
Wel maakt een korte Nederlandse productie kans op een prijs. Eerder werd de film Raak van Hanro Smitsman al genomineerd als een van de veertien titels die kans maken op een bekroning in de categorie korte films.
Kopenhagen
De uitreiking van de EFA's, het Europese equivalent van de Oscars, vindt voor de 21e maal plaats. De ceremonie is dit jaar in Kopenhagen.
De oeuvreprijs gaat dit jaar naar Dame Judi Dench, die momenteel in de bioscopen is te zien als M in de Bondfilm Quantum of Solace.
