Alles over Acer Drops 2 Fatty, 22-inchers | rss feed | toevoegen | e-mail nieuwsalarm | Gizmodo | 2006-06-27 04:21:23
Display, 22-inch displays, you sickos. These behemoth of monitors have a 1680x1050 WSXGA+ resolution, 700:1 contrast ratio, 5ms refresh time, 300cd brightness and includes two DVI ports. I guess Acer is going by my personal motto: go big or go home.
But wait, there is more! This monitor—available in black or iPod white—has a very nice price of 500 euros, or approximately $600. So, it's big, beautiful, pretty and will only set you back 600 bones? Not bad. Nice shot, Acer, nice shot. Expect a mid-ish July release for the AL2216 22-incher from Acer. – Travis Hudson

Alles over Acer CP-8660 | rss feed | toevoegen | e-mail nieuwsalarm | Gizmodo | 2006-06-23 20:33:39
Acer introduced its 8.28-megapixel CP-8660, not the most beautiful digital camera in the world, but it does have a rather large 2.8-inch LCD viewfinder. It also has a nice long 6x optical zoom that's coupled with its anti-shake technology to give you some steady telephoto action. In fact, its lens gives you the 35mm equivalent of 37 to 222mm. That's a long honking lens.
But then you'll pay for that in a bit of extra weight, because the thing weighs 6.3 ounces. Even so, it's fairly small at just under 4 inches wide. It also lets you record a voice memo so you can attach audio captions to images. No word on when it will be available or at what price. – Charlie White

Alles over Forget Liquid Cooling, Try a Jet Engine | rss feed | toevoegen | e-mail nieuwsalarm | Gizmodo | 2006-06-17 23:47:39
Keeping computers cool is becoming more of a challenge, forcing some hobbyists to fill their PCs with various liquids, and causing Google to build two four-story cooling towers for its new monster computer project in Oregon. HP engineers have a better idea. They've turned to tiny radio-controlled model jet airplane engines to cool server chassis. The electric-ducted fans (EDF) that power those way-cool model jets are just small enough to fit into some of HP's servers, and can move tremendous volumes of air.
But have you ever heard one of those radio controlled jets whining away at full tilt? It's a shrill scream that stays with you for a while, making you feel like you just sat through a couple of Grand Funk Railroad concerts in a row (for all you youngsters, that group is called "the loudest rock and roll band in the world"). A server cooled with one of those pocket rockets will have to be buried deep underground. Better get some nice long cables. – Charlie White
