Peugeot's 908 RC prototype, which was conceived and rendered at the company's design center in Paris, will be unveiled fittingly enough at the Paris show in September. Considering its high-concept design, we imagine the heavily accented oohing and aahing at the press event will be palpable (as will, we hope, the free pâté en croûte and a nice little something from the Bordeaux region). As is de rigueur for the pew-gots, they've released tons of sketches and whatnot related to the designers' motivation for and execution of such expressive linearity and curvaturearity of the sheetmetal. As such, the folks at Car Body Design offer a critique using actual words.

You just know the French carmakers are whipping up their finest haute cuisine for the upcoming Paris show this September. As exhibit A, we present the first shots of Peugeot's 908 RC concept, courtesy of the scoops at Carscoop. The PSA prototype will introduce the Audi-contending LeMans diesel engine, a 5.5 V12 HDi mill producing 700 Hp and 885 lbs.-ft of torque. It could also signal a sucessor to the barely-breathing 607. Voila!

We're gearing up for the Paris show in September, stocking up on crisp striped shirts and practicing our dismissive attitude (just kidding, guys). This morning, Peugeot fired the first conceptual shot with the 908 concept. Sure, it's as over-the-top as the 907 was, but that LeMans-ready diesel is the real show. We only hope they'll rev the thing on the show floor.

De Peugeot 907 zijn we inmiddels flink zat, de sportwagen is zo onderhand op elke autobeurs getoond die je je maar kunt bedenken. De Fransen komen daarom met een nieuwe concept: de 908 RC. Deze vierdeurs coupé zal op de autosalon van Parijs voor het eerst te zien zijn.

PARIJS (ANP-AFX) - Het Franse autoconcern PSA (Peugeot/Citroën) bouwt binnen nu en 2009 een autofabriek in het Chinese Wuhan. De fabriek krijgt een capaciteit van 150.000 wagens per jaar, zo liet PSA vrijdag weten. PSA Peugeot Citroën verdient dit jaar teleurstellend weinig door de hoge kosten van grondstoffen als koper, zink en aluminium. Uit de cijfers over het eerste halfjaar blijkt dat de nettowinst met 60 procent is gedaald. Never before had there been a diesel-powered racer competing in at 24 Hours of Le Mans until Audi's R10 qualified this year. Next year, there may be two dieselfied contenders. Peugeot intends to make good on a pledge it reportedly made last year (apparently in secret, or during a heavy news day) that it would win LeMans with an HDi diesel engine. The company plans to show off its new, 700hp oil-burning V12 as a scale model at this year's Paris Motor Show, with a first pass by test driver Ã0ric Hélary scheduled for December 2006. It may be even more torquey than Audi's (885 ft.-lbs vs. 811). Hope it doesn't rain.

AMSTERDAM - Het team van Peugeot voor de 24 uur van Le Mans geeft nog niet op. Donderdag werd het protest van Peugeot tegen de auto's van Audi verworpen, maar de Franse renstal tekende direct beroep aan. Volgens het team voldoen de Audi's die zaterdag aan de start verschijnen, niet aan de technische eisen. De bolides kwamen wel door de keuring.De internationale autosportfederatie FIA is vermoedelijk de aangewezen instantie om het beroep te behandelen. De kans lijkt echter klein dat de federatie de zaak nog voor de start van zaterdag onder de loep neemt.
