A blackberrycool reader was at a Roger's launch party and lucky for them (and us), won a 7130g. He took a few pictures and told the world what he thought about the new device.
The first thing you notice when you place the 7130g in your lucky, lucky hands is how junky it makes the 7100 feel. They seem to have shaved about half a centimeter off the length of the device and a few solid millimeters off the width. In every way the 7130g looks smoother, slimmer and generally more aesthetically pleasing than the 7100; they've basically taken the best design elements of the 8700 and the 7100 and thrown them together.
Other thoughts he had was that the the 7130g takes some design cues from the 8700. The square keys makes it a bit easier to hit, even though the space key has been shrunken quite a bit. It was easy for him to transfer his stuff from his 7100 onto the 7130g by making a backup and loading them onto the new phone. The guy really likes the 7130 more than the 7100 and thinks it may make convert some 8700 users that want a more "phoney" phone. – Jason Chen

TORONTO - De expansie van de Blackberry kent voorlopig geen grenzen. Volgens fabrikant Research In Motion telt de telefoon wereldwijd inmiddels ongeveer 25 miljoen gebruikers. Het afgelopen kwartaal sloot het Canadese bedrijf 3,9 exemplaren aan, ondanks de economische recessie en concurrentie van de iPhone.Dit blijkt uit cijfers die Research In Motion (RIM) donderdagavond heeft bekendgemaakt. De Blackberry is een belangrijke wegbereider geweest voor bedrijfsmail op de mobiele telefoon.
Winstgroei
De groei is ook zichtbaar in de omzet. Die steeg in de periode december-februari met 84 procent tot 3,46 miljard dollar. De winst ging naar 518 miljoen dollar tegen 412 miljoen dollar een jaar eerder.

Blackberry krijgt online softwarewinkel
AMSTERDAM - Smartphonemaker RIM heeft woensdag zijn online softwarewinkel Blackberry App World geopend. Gebruikers kunnen daar allerlei toepassingen downloaden om de functionaliteit van hun toestel uit te breiden. RIM volgt daarmee het voorbeeld van onder meer Apple. De aan Apples iPhone gekoppelde 'App Store' geldt als een groot succes: via die winkel zijn inmiddels zo'n tienduizenden gratis en betaalde applicaties verkrijgbaar. Ook Googles mobiele besturingssysteem Android kent zo'n softwaremarkt, en Microsoft kondigde onlangs de komst van een winkel voor Windows Mobile aan.
Consumenten
Met de opening van de softwarewinkel, waarin naast zakelijke toepassingen veel spelletjes, multimediaprogramma's en applicaties voor sociale netwerken te vinden zijn, zet RIM zijn focus op de consumentenmarkt voort. Eerder lanceerde het bedrijf met de Blackberry Storm en de Blackberry Flip al toestellen die, anders dan zijn eerdere smartphones, vooral buiten de zakelijke markt klanten moeten trekken.Vooralsnog is Blackberry App World alleen beschikbaar voor gebruikers in de Verenigde Staten, het Verenigd Koninkrijk en RIM's thuisland Canada. Andere landen moeten nog volgen.
PayPal
Om van de dienst gebruik te kunnen maken, moeten klanten beschikken over een Blackberry met versie 4.2 of hoger van het bijbehorende besturingssysteem. De voor Blackberry App World benodigde software is dan te downloaden van de website van het bedrijf.Ook is een account nodig bij online betaaldienst PayPal.

Blackberrymaker groeit het snelst
NEW YORK - De Canadese telefoonproducent Research in Motion (RiM), bekend van de Blackberry, is het snelst groeiende bedrijf ter wereld. Dat concludeert het Amerikaanse zakentijdschrift Fortune, dat de honderd snelste groeiers op een rij zette.Dankzij het wereldwijde succes van de Blackberry wist RiM de Amerikaanse chipfabrikant Sigma Designs en het Chinese internetbedrijf Sohu.com achter zich te houden. De producent van de smartphone zag de winst in de afgelopen drie jaar met gemiddeld 84 procent groeien.
Ruime afstand
De omzet van het bedrijf, dat in de afgelopen tien jaar 65 miljoen telefoons verkocht, groeide in die periode met 77 procent.Concurrenten Apple, maker van de iPhone, en Google, dat dit jaar de G1 op de markt bracht, eindigden op ruime afstand van Research in Motion.Apple moest 38 bedrijven voor laten gaan op de lijst van snelste groeiers, Google eindigde als 68e.
