Beste Tim,

Mvg

Alles over Buy Tony Hawk's board-burdened GH guitar, help starving musicians | rss feed | toevoegen | e-mail nieuwsalarm | Software Headlines :: Index | 2007-04-05 03:28:07
Filed under: Culture, Hacks, SonyPlayStation 2, Online, Peripherals, RhythmHere's a charity item we guarantee no one has ever auctioned off before: a Guitar Hero controller bonded to a skateboard fragment -- with Tony Hawk's siggy, no less. Bidding starts at $100 and proceeds go to the MusiCares organization, which catches panhandling musicians in a delicate safety net and provides them with "critical assistance" (read: not a record deal). Some 29 other celeb- and rocker-decorated GH controllers are also up on eBay to support the cause. For anyone hoping for more than just a geeky display piece, please note the fine print: "Owing to customization, the controller is offered solely as an art object and is not guaranteed to have retained any functionality; buyers who choose to connect the controller to a console do so at their own risk."

Alles over Guitar Hero: Encore & Guitar Hero 2006 titles under consideration for four GH sequels ... | rss feed | toevoegen | e-mail nieuwsalarm | Software Headlines :: Index | 2006-08-17 15:43:47
Filed under: Sony PlayStation 2, Sony PlayStation 3, Wireless, Microsoft Xbox, Microsoft Xbox 360, Online, Peripherals, Rhythm, Business Thanks to a reliable source, we've managed to get the scoop on some of the titles and logos that have been proposed for the next four Guitar Hero games, and we hope you like axe-themed subtitles because Guitar Hero: World Tour, Guitar Hero: Encore, Guitar Hero: Axe Grinder, and, yes, even Guitar Hero II are just a few of the names under consideration. Selling additional downloadable content is of course on the table as well. We all knew that multiple sequels were in the works for Activision's 100-million-dollar baby (which had, at last count, "five or six titles" to be jamming by the middle of 2007), but this is the first indication of potential game names beyond Guitar Hero II or 2 that we've heard about. Are there any decent names you can think of for four more years titles? Read on for the different naming conventions and subtitles also being looked at -- hence, the EA-inspired Guitar Hero 2006 label -- as well as a little analysis of the name game surrounding these sequels (which could simply be viewed as expansion packs or song packs in certain circles). The big questions, of course, are whether these names are any good and, more importantly, whether downloadable songs and gameplay updates make regular-sized sequels a relic of the retailing past. Rock on?While our source would only cop to there "potentially" being four sequels to the one game already out in stores, we're sure that Activision/Red Octane will pump out the new games and/or expansion packs as long as they keep selling -- whether Harmonix is around to develop for them or not. With that in mind, here are the other names being considered for those "potential" new games, which probably will get downloadable songs and other relevant content at some point in the near future. The simple numbering convention (works with Roman numerals, too): Guitar Hero 2 Guitar Hero 3 Guitar Hero 4 Guitar Hero 5The numbers with subtitles (would ReAmped really be the best subtitle to start off with, especially with Encore and World Tour still available?): Guitar Hero 2: ReAmped Guitar Hero 3: Encore Guitar Hero 4: Jam Session Guitar Hero 5: World TourSame deal with subtitles after ditching the numeric descriptors: Guitar Hero: ReAmped Guitar Hero: Encore Guitar Hero: Jam Session Guitar Hero: World TourGoing all the way (date-wise) with EA Sports-like yearly designations: Guitar Hero 2006 Guitar Hero 2007 Guitar Hero 2008 Guitar Hero 2009Of course, you know they thought up more than four possible subtitles for a lucrative new franchise, so here are the rest of the names mentioned that the marketers are pondering in their sleep or spare time: Guitar Hero: Axe Grinder Guitar Hero: No Strings Attached Guitar Hero: Six StringSorry we were only able to get our hands on two new candidates for GH logos, but hopefully all these crazy names will make up for the dearth of guitar-geared graphics gotten. At any rate, with all the subtitle action going on, perhaps we can be forgiven for wondering what will become of the simple Guitar Hero II moniker currently attached to the upcoming PS2 sequel set for November. As the post-March of '07 installment is said to be "an 'all-new Guitar Hero' game, the third entry in Red Octane's virtual-headbanger series," we wonder whether any of these extended titles will stick to the game (formerly?) known as Guitar Hero II, especially Guitar Hero 2006. After all, no other Hero game's been announced before the 2007 calendar year (or Activision's 2008 fiscal year, which starts April 1st, 2007) besides GH2.Of course, game titles get changed during development all the time -- sometimes even after the main development's over, such as when a game's ported from one country to another. What the MTV-minded (and MTV-partnered) folks at Red Octane have to figure out is how best to reach the mainstream with their music-based games, and good titles (with great gameplay, natch) only help the cause. Any way of aiding the great word of mouth for the series can only increase sales, which were noteworthy even eight months into its U.S. release (The NPD Group).Whatever the case may be, game journalists/bloggers might gain the most from the sequel name game as their punny headlines (like "Guitar Hero Continues World Tour In Europe" and "E3 06: Guitar Hero encore announced") appear perhaps unremarkably prescient in hindsight. (Okay, so Red Octane had "Guitar Hero World Tour" plastered on some T-shirts already, but that's par for the community-building course these days.)All kidding aside, the business of games -- which has reached a nine-digit figure with this publisher's acquisition deal alone -- is what dictates how major franchises are sustained and what new content is released, whether simple gamer pics or full-fledged extensions to titles already on store shelves. Questions currently without solid answers: Will downloadable songs be available by the time the fourth GH sequel's out and in numbers that will trump the trickled release schedule for Xbox Live Arcade games up to this point? When will the multiplatform strategy for the series be revealed to the public, and where are the first-party wireless guitar controllers? And how will the varied Hero-ic successors compare to Konami's rejuvenated GuitarFreaks franchise (coming to the States as Guitar Revolution), the downloadable song packs for Karaoke Revolution and DDR Ultramix on the original Xbox, as well as Sony's enormous back-catalog of downloadable PS2 tunes for the PS3 version of SingStar (with over 300-350 older songs to go with the newer ones)? For the sake of current and potential fans of the rhythm, music, singing, bemani, and/or peripheral-wielding game genres everywhere, let's hope the answers to these questions are good ones -- and get here quickly.
