The next time you drop by the windy city of Chicago, check out Nokia's new flagship store that is proudly seated along Chicago's Magnificent Mile. Those who read too much into things will point out that Nokia has opened this store with cheeky intentions of placing it blocks away from the Motorola's design studio and across the street from Motorola's Destination Q store. This new 3500 sq ft. flagship store also hosts the first Vertu Lounge in the U.S. along with a range of other handsets from the Finnish cellphone manufacturer. An anonymous reader writes "A chain of Florida convenience stores has begun accepting fingerprints as payment, using a biometric system called Pay By Touch. The company is a Bay-area startup backed by $130 million in VC cash and the acquisition of BioPay, a Virginia-based biometrics firm that's already done $7 billion in European transactions. From the article: 'The company is a bit puzzled by customer privacy fears. After all, they say, how can using a unique fingerprint for identification be riskier to theft than a plastic card, key chain token, or account number? ...The fingerprint image recorded is not the same as those collected by the federal government or law enforcement.'"

Reader Nick informs us that class warfare was rampant at the Nokia Store in Chicago. However, like the Samsung "store" here in New York, we're pretty sure this designed to be uber-swanky and actually pretty cool when they let people in.
They had an uber-swanky party that I wasn't allowed into last night filled with douchebags in sportcoats and hawt women who looked like
they used the Motorola RAZR. Between that and the local media, I was
able to piece together that they will have a Vertu store inside of the
Nokia store, just so, you know - if you wanted to drop 20 large on a
phone after shopping at The Gap next door, you can.

With retailers putting ever more emphasis on differentiating the store experience with technology, store managers' support of in-store technology increasingly determines implementation success and failure. But very little information exists about store managers' attitudes toward in-store technology. Do they think it's valuable? Does it help them do a better job? Does it make their store more successful? This research provides answers to these questions, using a survey of 24 store managers on everything from their attitudes toward in-store technologies to how they spend their time in the store, to how they feel about their central offices. We learned that store managers are busy; they spend a lot of time on the floor and particularly value technology that is aimed at improving their productivity. Nokia has plans to open a Nokia-exclusive store in Chicago soon in an attempt to improve its brand awareness. They chose Chicago to open the store because it is the home of Nokia's main competitor, Motorola. This will be the first of four stores that Nokia is planning on opening up in North America, including a store in New York later this fall. They plan to display the entire range of phones available in North America and interactive displays. So it's like an Apple Store, but for Nokia? Yeah, more or less. Just one word of advice, please hide the N-Gage in a dark closet or corner somewhere. There is a possibility of scaring away the customers if it is in the open. – Travis Hudson

De afdeling Technische Dienst in Scherpenzeel bestaat uit 25 medewerkers en is verantwoordelijk voor het ondersteunen van de productieafdeling. De werkzaamheden van de Storings- en Onderhoudsmonteur bestaan uit het:
- zorgdragen voor het (preventief) onderhoud aan de productielijnen;
- lokaliseren en opheffen van storingen en het uitvoeren van inspecties;
- aanpassen en onderhouden van de meet- en regel-, kracht- en besturingsinstallaties.
Van de kandidaat verwachten wij:
- een afgeronde opleiding MBO-Elektrotechniek of door ervaring verkregen vergelijkbaar niveau;
- brede kennis van de diverse elektrotechnische technieken;
- minimaal 2 jaar relevante werkervaring (in productieomgeving is een pré);
- brede kennis van de meet- en regeltechniek (o.a. Siemens PLC i.v.m. lokaliseren storingen);
- kennis van werktuigbouwkunde (o.a. hydrauliek en pneumatiek);
- reidheid tot het volgen van voor de functie relevante cursussen.
Verder verwachten wij van de kandidaat goede contactuele eigenschappen en de bereidheid om in een 3-ploegendienst te werken.
